1. For this we will need the Windows XP CD and put it into the top CD drive and then turn the computer off.

it into the top CD drive and then turn the computer off.
2a. Now we will have to boot off of the CD. To boot
off of the CD we will either have to set the computer too boot to
the CD in the BIOS and press any key When we get the message
"Press any key to boot from CD".
2b. Otherwise we will have to either press the
DEL, F2,
F9, F12
right after you start the computer. You should get a boot device
menu with a option for "IDE CD-ROM" or some variation. Once you
select the CD-ROM drive in the boot device menu you will get a
message to "Press any key to boot from CD" an you will have to press
(any key) a button as soon as you see that message.
3. Now you will have a blue loading screen that
will say windows setup at the top. Just let everything load and do
not choose any of the options. You will eventually get to a screen
that says "Welcome to setup".
4. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen press
R to repair which will bring us
to the recovery console a black screen. It may take a second or two
and then you will be asked to choose which windows installation to
use. press the 1 and then press
enter. We will then have to enter a administrator password or
just press enter if there is no password.
5. Now that we are in the Recovery console we can
complete a system restore. At this point you should be at a command
line that will say C:\Windows> with the curser waiting for
input.
6. We will now have to change directory to
the system restore directory. First type cd..
and then cd system~1 to get to
the system restore directory.
7. If you receive a message
Access
is denied like the one in the picture below continue with the
next steps otherwise continue with step 9.

8. We will have to change the rights to the folder
by entering the following commands
cd
windows
cd system32
cd config
and then press enter. Now we
have to Rename the system file to system.bak by entering
ren system system.bak and then
press enter. Now restart the computer by typing
exit and pressing enter
and start back step 1.
9. Now that we are in the "system~1"
folder we will have to go to the folder "_resto~1". To go to this
folder type the following cd _resto~1
and press enter. Now we will have the command line looking like
this C:\system~1\_resto~1>. If the folder does not exist we
will have to complete a parallel install to access information on
the system or complete a reinstall of windows and just loose the
information the the drive.
10. In the _resto~1 folder type
dir and then press enter and this
will display the contents of the folder. Look for files called
RP# Where the # sign will be some number. The RP# folder with
the highest number will be the latest restore point.
11. type cd RP#
and then press enter
where the # sign will be the highest number that you can locate
and then press enter. Type cd
snapshot and then press enter. The command line will now look like
this C:\system~1\resto~1\RP#\snapshot>.
12. Now we will have to enter the following five
commands to complete the restore. If you are prompted to overwrite
existing? press Y and the press enter to go on to the next
command.
copy _registry_machine_system
c:\windows\system32\config\system
copy _registry_machine_software c:\windows\system32\config\software
copy _registry_machine_security c:\windows\system32\config\security
copy _registry_machine_sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
copy _registry_user_.default c:\windows\system32\config\default
13. Once they are all copied type exit and
press enter and then let the computer restart normally.
